Balloon car 707 became the first of the rebuilds with flat ends replacing the traditional form. When it first appeared the corner lights on the top deck were omitted, as seen in this view at Fisherman's Walk on 12 July 1998, shortly after the car first re-entered service in this form | Trams in Blackpool | (3) |

In its original form Centenary 651 was not seen that often, and this view at Fleetwood on 25 May 1986 may well have been another test run. Can anyone shed any light on 651's history prior to conversion and renumbering as 648? | Trams in Blackpool | (3) |

Experimental car 651 was mobile test bed for switched reluctance motors, and ran for a while on Coronation trucks. The car was later re-equipped and renumbered 648 | Trams in Blackpool | (3) |

The first of the 20 Brush cars was 284 delivered in 1987, which became 621 in the 1968 scheme. On 25 October 1994 the car was seen at Anchorsholme Lane in the then fleet livery which had started to feature balck window surrounds | Trams in Blackpool | (2) |

Rebuilt Balloon 724 again, still wearing Metro Coastlines livery near South pier on 22 May 2005. The "Lucky Star" amusement arcade in the background was the location for the BBC1 drama series "Blackpool" which was broadcast early in 2005 | Trams in Blackpool | (2) |

With the ending of the advertising contract with Walls, car 719 has reverted to a more conventional appearance and has had the upper deck end windows restored. Some of the external mouldings have been retained for the time being. On 12 April 2008 the car was turning back at the Cabin, which was the temporary northern terminus of the line following reopening at Easter after a winter closure due to extensive track replacement work. | Trams in Blackpool | (2) |

Subsequent Centenary refurbishments have seen the front ends rebuilt more drastically to eliminate the expensvie curved glass windscreens. 643 was heading south at Bispham on 29 January 2005 | Trams in Blackpool | (2) |

WELCOME to my photo gallery, which is about buses, trolleybuses, coaches and trams. I hope you will find something of interest amongst the various collections. If you would like to see some of my railway material check out "PETER'S RAILWAY ALBUM" using the link on this page.
I have a large personal collection of colour slides and negatives taken in the period 1967 to the present day. My intention is to show some of the variety of transport around Europe and the changes that have taken place over the years. There are now more than 3600 images in this gallery.
LATEST UPDATE: 18/7/09 14 images of buses in Shrewsbury and Oswestry and 18 images of buses in Wrexham and Chester, added to the relevant collections
PREVIOUS UPDATES; 3/7/09 11 images taken on a recent visit to the Bordeaux tramway, including recently opened extensions to Claveau and Les Aubiers 18/3/09 up to 20/6/09 More than 40 images of Arriva Midlands vehicles in the Cannock and Walsall areas added to the "Buses in the West Midlands and Staffordshire" collection; 12/3/09 A selection of images taken of buses in York, Harrogate, Skipton and Settle during 2008 and early 2009 added to "Buses in Yorkshire and the East Midlands"; 17/12/08 A selection of images of buses taken at Walsall's Bradford Place on 16th December;
Whilst the bus collections seem to be most popular, do take some time to look at the various tram collections, which include many images taken in the 1970's and early 1980's both in western and eastern Europe. Eastern Europe in the 1970s was a very different world compared to how things are now. During the era of the German Democratic Republic trains of two axle cars could be seen daily rolling along on indifferent track through sooty streets and out to the new suburbs of concrete block houses. Returning to many of these places now some of the locations are almost unrecognisable, not least because everywhere is so much tidier and all the buildings have been given a coat of paint! But of course the other big change is the spread of commercial advertising compared to the political propaganda of those times.
All the older pictures have been taken on 35 mm. film and scanned from the original slide, and more recently from colour negative film. Images from late 2004 onwards have been taken on an Olympus C760 Ultra Zoom digital camera, and from August 2006 onwards I have also started to use a Canon EOS350D on which I use a Sigma 18-50 mm. lens.
Once again if anyone has any special requests that they can't find in the gallery please leave a message and I will try to respond through this section. Similarly if you spot any howlers in the captions I will not be offended if you leave a message correcting my error. My records are nothing like 100% especially on the bus side of things and sometimes what I think something might be can turn out to be something rather different.
NOTE - The photographs on this site may be downloaded for personal use only. They may not be used on other websites or publications, or reproduced in any other form without prior permission. I can offer 6 x 4 hard copies of any of the images on this site based on the original high resolution scan. Please contact via the message facility for details. |
